Day of Unity  -  Churchland Elementary Students Take a Stand Against Bullying

    Unity Day

6th Graders enjoyed a motivational
and informational assembly which featured
U.S. Olympic track and field athlete,
LaShawn Merritt.  Mr. Merritt is a graduate
of Woodrow Wilson High School.  In the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, he won a Gold medal for the 400 m and a Gold for the 4 X 400 relay.  In the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Summer Olympics, he took bronze for the 400 m, and Gold for the 4 x 400 relay.  Merritt is one of only five men in history to have broken 20 seconds for the 200 m and 44 seconds for the 400 m.  Students enjoyed seeing the Olympic medals.  Students also learned about the importance of education and perseverance through Mr. Merritt's real world experiences.
