The Churchland Elementary library is an exciting place!  Churchland Elementary Library is a part of the students Encore rotation.  Library has a lesson which relates to the specific grade level Standards of Learning.  Students are then allowed to check-out books.  Students keep their book until the next Library rotation at which time the students may exchange their book for another book.

With an abundance of assistance from many parents and staff, the Library has been reorganized using the Dewey Decimal System which is standard for libraries.  However, books are labeled with a grade equivalent sticker which helps children to choose a good fit book.

0.1 - 0.9   Yellow
1.0 - 1.9   Orange
2.0 - 2.9   Purple
3.0 - 3.9   Tan

6.0 - 6.9   Green

Students in grades k-6 may check-out one book at a time.

Student helpers, called Library Pages, help check-out books, return books to their correct shelves, and help keep the book shelves straight.  Pages are students in fourth and fifth grade who come to the library once a week.  Parent volunteers also help keep the library running smoothly.  The library greatly appreciates both its volunteers and Pages.

Book Fair

The PTA sponsors three Scholastic Book Fairs that are held in the library each school year:  One in November, one in March, and a BOGO Fair in June.  These Book Fairs give parents the opportunity to purchase new books and related items for their students, friends, and family.

When you are visiting Churchland Elementary, make sure you come by the library and say hello, check out our books and maybe even volunteer!
